We provide evidence, data and insight to the North’s 11 combined authorities to help their local transport plans and build stronger cases for investment.
By showing the value of transport schemes to unlock growth, it improves the chances of securing funding and gives elected leaders and mayors the evidence to support decisions for their areas.
Our Northern Intelligence and Insights Hub gives partners direct access to datasets, dashboards and analytical tools that are calibrated to the North, so they can explore data and build their own evidence base.
Through the TfN Offer, our analysts and technical experts provide tailored support and access to our Analytical Framework — helping partners develop the right insight and apply it to their plans, strategies and business cases.

Our statutory role
As a statutory body, we:
- advise the Secretary of State on pan-northern transport priorities
- set a long-term regional strategic transport plan
- advise on major rail and road investment decisions
- work with the Department for Transport on the North’s franchised rail services via Rail North Partnership
